I didn’t get much accomplished yesterday because the night before I started feeling crappy and by morning I felt like somebody had worked me over with a baseball bat. So except for running an errand with John Huggins it was pretty much a lost day.
The one thing I did get accomplished was to go with John to nearby Horseshoe Cove RV Resort, a few blocks from Pleasant Lake, and another member of the Carefree Resorts group. John and Kathy are planning a small, informal rally for their Living The RV Dream followers at Horseshoe Cove in October of next year and he asked me to come along when he met with the manager there to go over some details of the rally. I guess John thought I might be able to offer some insight based upon our own experiences running our Gypsy Journal rallies, but I’m not sure if I was able to offer much that John and Ellie Davis, the manager at Horseshoe Cove, had not already covered.
When we were done with the meeting, Ellie took us on a golf cart tour of the resort. It’s a nice place with every kind of amenity you could ever want, including a fully equipped woodworking shop and a setup for making stained glass.
The resort has its own island, accessible by a wooden pedestrian or golf cart bridge. The island has a nice large screened room, barbecue grill, and two wooden fishing docks. The view of the river was awesome. Ellie said this time of the year they see manatee hanging out in the river. I think it’s going to be a great place for a rally.
Back at home, I tried to get some work done, but my head was so foggy that I couldn’t concentrate, so I retreated to the couch, where I spent most of the day napping and feeling sorry for myself. Yeah, I was in full snivel mode. I’m not sure if it’s allergies or a cold coming on, but whatever it is, I hope it goes away soon.
It disgusts me that Thanksgiving isn’t even here yet and the stores and TV commercials are already pushing Christmas. To the business community, it’s no longer a holiday, it’s just one more excuse to get you to spend money. So I really was touched by this moving Christmas tribute to peace during World War I that an English friend of mine, author Jess Mountifield, shared. This is a true event that took place in No Man’s Land between the German and English trenches during a Christmas cease fire and I think it’s beautiful. My dad, who had seen more than his fair share of combat, always said that wars were started by rich old men sitting at desks, and fought by poor young men who die in the dirt.
