Slow To Respond

We are spending the week in Tuscaloosa, Alabama visiting my son Travis and his wife Geli, and we’re taking advantage of every moment we can to be with them. So I’m going to be slow to respond to emails and Facebook messages all week. If it’s something important I will try to reply as soon as possible, but if it’s just a general question or comment about the RV lifestyle or my books, it may take me a while to get back to you. I apologize for the inconvenience.

There is one word to describe Tuscaloosa this time of year. Hot! If you insist on a more in-depth description, how about hot and humid? I was hoping we would be able to go kite flying yesterday, but it was just too bloody hot. So instead, Travis and Geli came over to the motorhome and we spent most of the day visiting.

As I wrote in yesterday’s blog, Travis loves growing things and I was telling him about hydroponic gardening. We spent some time yesterday looking at YouTube videos on how to make an inexpensive do-it-yourself hydroponics set-up and now he’s really hooked. All it takes is a heavy duty plastic storage bin, some three-inch plastic net pots that are open on the bottom, some gravel size hydroponic grow stones, an aquarium pump, an air stone, and some plastic aquarium tubing. Everything needed can be had for less than $50.

So we went off to Home Depot, and then Lowes, looking for the things we needed. They didn’t have any of it, and as it turns out, their employees didn’t have a clue. Then we went to WalMart, where we bought the plastic bins, aquarium pump, tubing, and air stone. The rest we ordered from Amazon prime and it will be here tomorrow or Wednesday.

We love seeing how excited Travis is by this new project and helping him get started with it. As for Geli, she’s just looking forward to having tomatoes year-round!

Somebody asked how our daughter-in-law’s name is pronounced. It’s Jee-Lah, but she also answers to simply G, pretty lady, or hey you.

My buddy John Huggins is a glutton for punishment. In addition to the popular weekly RV podcasts he and wife Kathy put out, writing books on the RV lifestyle, planning their second annual RV rally, and running the Living the RV Dream Facebook group, which has over 31,000 members, yesterday morning John started a Facebook group dedicated to buying and selling RVs, RV accessories, RV books, and anything else related to RVing. By the end of the day the group already had over 670 members. It is not open to RV dealers or salesmen, so if you’re looking for a bargain, check it out at this link.

Congratulations Dottie Wilkinson, this week’s winner of our drawing for an audiobook of Big Lake Blizzard, the fourth book in my Big Lake mystery series. We had 125 entries this time around. Stay tuned, a new contest starts soon!
